Wait, Are We Actually Getting A New Crocodile Dundee Movie?

Here's some news no one was really expecting: A new Crocodile Dundee movie is coming...or at least it looks like one is. Crocodile Dundee was a series of films that followed a legendary bushman of the Australian Outback, Mick Dundee, and his often fish out of water adventures in big cities. Now a new mysterious project has surfaced that seems to be a new Crocodile Dundee movie. It stars Danny McBride as Dundee's son Brian, and it just released a new teaser trailer. But is it legit? Check it out for yourself below.

Called Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home, the project stars Danny McBride as Brian Dundee, the son of Mick Dundee that no one knew he had. When the elder Dundee goes missing in the Outback, the only person that can possibly find him is his loudmouth American city boy son. Brian will have to channel his Aussie roots and embark on a new adventure in the land down under. Original Dundee actor Paul Hogan is set to reprise his famous character.

It certainly appears to be a legitimate movie arriving in theaters "this summer," but looks can be deceiving.

While there's always the chance that is a real project that people can actually watch in theaters one day, there are a few reasons why this writer feels confident doubting that. For one thing, we're entering Super Bowl season, which means ad campaigns are gearing up to promote their commercials that will be airing during the game. This new Dundee teaser could be an elaborate ruse to sell Outback Steakhouse or Bud Light or Doritos or whatever. Super Bowl ad campaigns have big money behind them, often attracting A-List celebrities for big budget commercials. It's entirely possible that Dundee is just another fun, if not elaborate, commercial campaign.

There's also the fact that this project has no announced director, writer, producers, or even what studio is making it; Danny McBride and Paul Hogan are the only names attached. McBride has been knee deep in developing the new Halloween movie, so unless he has has a Time-Turner, it's unlikely he was able to do that and film an entire movie in secret. To be fair, Dundee does have a website and it looks pretty official -- complete with pics from the production -- but there are some tells. The production photos are only from the trailer, for instance. Also, the title is really bad to be anything but deliberately winking.

So, will Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home turn out to be real and throw egg all over my face? Maybe. We'll probably know more by the time a certain Sunday in February rolls around, so be sure to check in with CinemaBlend and we'll update you with new information as soon as it is available.
