Puss In Boots Breaks Up With Shrek

It’s been scratching its way around DreamWorks Animation for years now, but it looks like the Puss in Boots spin-off of Shrek may still happen. If they really do get the thing made, don’t expect to see Puss teamed up with any of his Shrek buddies in it.

Moviehole recently talked to Puss in Boots writer David H. Steinberg who revealed, “’It doesn’t overlap with Shrek at all. Partly that was done to tell an original Puss story, but partly because we didn’t know what Shrek 4 (and now Shrek 5) were going to do with the characters and we couldn’t write conflicting storylines.” So if you’re looking forward to the Puss movie in hopes of a Donkey cameo, looks like you’re out of luck.

This fits with what we’ve heard about the movie before. Antonio Banderas, who voices Puss in Boots has already revealed the this is an origin story of the character. That means Puss before his meeting with Shrek and the rest. Maybe we’ll finally learn where he got those dashing boots.
