Mark Hamill Throws Shade At Last Jedi Haters

While Star Wars: The Last Jedi was still a massive box office success, that did not come without a larger than expected share of vocal criticism. Mark Hamill has received the brunt of it, but it appears he still has his sense of humor. The actor who plays Luke Skywalker recently posted an image of the cast during the night of the movie's premiere, claiming that even then, somebody was about to get really mad on social media.

The image shows nearly the entire main cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, all dressed in their best for the film's premiere. Some poor guy got caught in the frame, he appears to be engaged somewhere else and doesn't even realize what's happening behind him, but the massive smiles on everybody's faces here makes him look downright depressed by comparison.

While it's unclear exactly how big the backlash to Star Wars: The Last Jedi actually was, there certainly were a lot of people who took issue with some of the decisions that were made in the film. And many of those who had problems voiced those concerns on social media. Since many of the frustrations revolved around the portrayal of Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill was the focus of more grief than most.

Mark Hamill has had to defend Star Wars: The Last Jedi to a lot of people, and he has done so while still making it clear that he wasn't entirely sold on the movie at the beginning either. He confessed that he didn't really see the direction that Luke Skywalker took in the movie to be the way he would have taken it, but he trusted in the director. Others have not felt so enlightened.

It's nice to see that Mark Hamill can still laugh because it had to get exhausting for a while to deal with the mass influx of angry fans. Even this tweet isn't without responses from people who are still angry with Luke's character arc. Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available via Digital, with the Blu-ray coming in a couple weeks, there's a good chance the fires will be stoked again as the movie jumps back into the conversation for a while as everybody revisits the movie.

Perhaps with time for tempers to cool some have reduced the vitriol they have for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It takes a lot of energy to be mad and hopefully some have found better places to focus their efforts. Even if you didn't like The Last Jedi, it's not actually the end of the world. Perhaps on a rewatch people will find more to like about it, or at least less to hate.
