The Avengers 4 Cast Doesn't Know The Title Of The Movie, Either

Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Infinity War

Although the third and fourth Avengers movies are no longer being classified as two halves of the same story, they're still closely tied to one another. That's because Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 shot back-to-back last year, and most of the cast members from the former movie will be back for the latter movie. However, due to Infinity War's connection to Avengers 4, Marvel has been staying tight-lipped about what's in store for Avengers 4, to the point that we still don't know what this movie is officially called. And it's not just the general public being kept in the dark; Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen revealed that the actors also don't know what Avengers 4's title is, saying:

No, someone just told us that they were going to release it after this movie. When are they releasing the name? I have no idea what it is. I've been calling it Avengers 4.

It's one thing to not reveal important information to moviegoing audiences ahead of time, but when the cast also hasn't been clued in on what Avengers 4 is called, you know it's a big deal. Last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that the reason that Avengers 4's title hasn't been revealed yet is because it's a spoiler for Avengers: Infinity War, although he later walked back on that statement and noted that the real reason Marvel Studios is staying secretive on the title is so focus isn't diverted from Infinity War. As for when fans and MCU performers alike will learn what Avengers 4 is called, directors Joe and Anthony Russo said they're going to wait until people have "absorbed" Infinity War enough before shedding light on its successor, though we should indeed be "scared" about the title.

Of course, the Avengers 4 title was just one of the ways the back-to-back production of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 was shrouded in secrecy. As Elizabeth Olsen also mentioned during her conversation with Digital Spy, the actors had two options when it came to the script: read the full script on an iPad in a locked private room (though as Olsen and Vision actor Paul Bettany noted, that full script also contained some lies), or just receive the pages pertaining to their character and have someone orally explain what happens in the rest of the movie. With Infinity War less than two weeks away, it won't be much longer until we learn what Olsen and her MCU costars were up to during the first half of 2017, but we'll still have another year to go until the proverbial curtain is pulled back on what they shot for Avengers 4 in the latter six months.

Whatever Avengers 4 ends up being officially called, you can see the movie wrap up the MCU's Phase Three upon hitting theaters May 3, 2019. But not to worry, because Avengers: Infinity War arrives on April 27, and you can learn what other MCU projects are in development by looking through our handy guide.
