When Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Is Hitting Blu-ray And Digital

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

After Jurassic World collected over $1.6 billion worldwide and became the second highest-grossing movie of 2015, it was to be expected that a sequel would follow. Three years later, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom arrived in theaters, and like its predecessor, it has made a killing at the box office, currently sitting at nearly $1.2 billion. Fallen Kingdom still has some life in it in theaters, but no doubt many of you reading have been wondering when you can watch the movie in the comfort of your own home. Well, wonder no longer, because it's just been announced that Fallen Kingdom will be available on Digital HD starting September 4, while the Blu-ray/DVD release will follow on September 18.

As is expected of every home release of a movie, particularly of the blockbuster variety, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be packed with plenty of special features. Most of these are inside/behind-the-scenes looks, like "Birth of the Indoraptor," "Monster in a Mansion," "Rooftop Showdown" and "Malcolm's Return," while other extra content includes Chris Pratt's Jurassic Journals, Fallen Kingdom: The Conversation (where the filmmakers and cast talk about the movie) and Jurassic Then and Now, which shows how key moments of the Jurassic saga tie into Fallen Kingdom.

Most of the features will be available on the DVD version (which is nice, since nowadays DVD copies of movies often exclude or provide little in the way of special features), but those of you who buy Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD or Digital will also be treated five extra features: "The Kingdom Evolves," where the filmmakers talk about how Fallen Kingdom pushes the franchise in a new direction; "Return to Hawaii," which is self-explanatory; "Island Action," a behind-the-scenes look at the bunker scene and the runaway gyrosphere sequence; "Aboard the Arcadia," where the cast and crew talk about working with animatronic dinosaurs; and "Start the Bidding!" a behind-the-scenes look at the auction scene.

Alas, it doesn't look like there will be any deleted scenes on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's home release, so those of you who were hoping to look at any moments that didn't make the theatrical cut will just have to be content with the product that screened to the masses and all these special features. Judging by how well the sequel has performed in theaters, I suspect that a lot of people will be buying this movie for their collection, be it purely digital or physically. I would be remiss if I didn't also mention that Jurassic World 3 has already gotten the green light, with Colin Trevorrow returning to direct and co-write the script with Emily Carmichael. There's no word yet on the plot other than it won't include any hybrid dinosaurs.
