Nostalgia for the '90s Saturday morning classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers indulged fans in the form of 2017's Power Rangers. But not enough moviegoers were into the fresh take on the teenaged superheroes tasked with saving Angel Grove, as Power Rangers didn't garner enough attention to become a blockbuster hit. So now it's unclear if we'll ever see these new Power Rangers morph again in a future sequel. While the first Power Rangers movie was nowhere near perfect, it offered quite a bit of potential for the franchise and we would love to see the cast suit up again. Blue Ranger RJ Cyler also hopes to reprise his role as Billy, and here's what he would like to see:

I want to see the growth Jason has with his pa. In our movie, they had the father-parent relationship like Mufasa and Simba... I want to see how deep in forgiveness and understanding both of them get with each other. They softened in the last movie, but I want to see how their relationship evolves. I also want to see more of the Trini character because there were a lot of good nuggets of who Trini is and how she could potentially be a part of the LGBT community. I want to see the development of that. Fan's lives can change with that.

What made Power Rangers most memorable was the creation of entirely new characters, who became the Mighty Morphin heroes for the new generation. The movie focused on each of their unique qualities and struggles as they face as high school students. RJ Cyler's interview with TV Insider shows that the actor was just as intrigued with each of their stories, namely the Red and Yellow Rangers, played by Dacre Montgomery and Becky G respectively.

Stranger Things' Dacre Montgomery played a popular quarterback struggling at home as Jason, while Yellow Ranger Trini broke ground as the first queer big-screen superhero. RJ Tyler's character in Power Rangers also signaled the film's step in the direction toward inclusion, as his Billy was on the autism spectrum. A potential sequel could continue the conversations that were touched upon with these characters under a fun story full of more action than we saw in the reboot.

Since 2017's Power Rangers, Hasbro has purchased the property from Saban for $522 million. The company has shown interest in making more Power Rangers films, but a sequel has yet to be green-lit. Until we find out the fate of these new characters, the young actors who have portrayed them have been rising in popularity since. Pink Ranger Naomi Scott will soon be seen in the Charlie's Angels reboot and as Jasmine in the live-action Aladdin. RJ Cyler stars in the recent Netflix release Sierra Burgess is a Loser and in White Boy Rick, in theaters now.
