Ant-Man And The Wasp’s Honest Trailer Pokes Fun At The Movie’s Science

On the heels of Avengers: Infinity War, perhaps Marvel's most shocking and heartbreaking film, came the a much more lighthearted release Ant-Man and the Wasp. The action-packed sequel was just the right dose of superhero fun to alleviate the pain of seeing our favorite superheroes fail in their fight against Thanos and turn to dust. Since Ant-Man and the Wasp is out of theaters and now available to own, fans can put it under a microscope, namely the folks over at Honest Trailers who've featured the film on their latest episode. Can you count all the times they say the word "quantum"?

While some shots were fired in the Screen Junkies video, the jabs were quite pocket-sized compared to some other episodes of the YouTube series. Honest Trailers can get relentless when it wants to, but for Ant-Man and the Wasp, it pokes fun, but doesn't vaporize the movie, meaning it does hold up in its eyes. The trailer starts by pointing out how Ant-Man is a character "everyone likes, but no one really cares about", then pointing to Paul Rudd, the "cutest Marvel white guy not named Chris." Ant-Man is often underutilized compared to his fellow Avengers, and both the character and film's differing tone indicate that Scott Lang's just not taken as seriously as Cap or Iron Man.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp, it was more apparent than ever how "effortless" Scott Lang is when matched with Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne, a.k.a. Wasp. Marvel's first female hero on a title card comfortably kicked ass in the sequel as Scott's suit often malfunctioned. The film introduced the character's need for a counterpart through these scenes, giving Hope some chances to shine. But as the Honest Trailer showed, their dynamic is a lot like quite a few other female characters, having to be the serious one and rolling their eyes at the titular male character's ridiculous antics. Maybe it's time for a goofy and irresponsible female superhero who gets all the glory?

The Screen Junkies' video also pointed out other giant flies on the wall such as Luis making up for being the only Mexican character in the MCU by being the most Mexican character and how Michelle Pfeiffer had a perfect face of make-up despite being stuck in the Quantum Realm for quite some time. The trailer also brings to attention how every scientific term in the film just slapped "quantum" in front of it, a detail Scott Lang even jokingly points out in the sequel.

As was also pointed out, the "main villain" Sonny Burch was just a guy in a tan suit with a couple goons by his side and a cell phone is a bit of a new low for MCU villain-wise -- where's the tech! Ghost, however, posed the biggest threat to Ant-Man and Wasp, as she stood between their mission to bring Janet Van Dyne back from the Quantum Realm.

It's always fun to revisit highly-successfully movies such as Ant-Man and the Wasp and find the funny little aspects of the film you didn't quite notice the first time around. The Marvel film is available now on Digital HD and Blu-ray.
