Taron Egerton Isn't Appearing In The Next Kingsman Movie

Taron Egerton as Eggsy in Kingsman: The Golden Circle

While not as well-received as Kingsman: The Secret Service, last year's Kingsman: The Golden Circle still did quite well for itself in the box office, and back in June, it was announced that the franchise will continue through various projects. However, in case you were looking forward to Eggsy jumping back into action next on the big screen, Taron Egerton has revealed that he will not appear in the forthcoming Kingsman movie. Egerton said:

I don't know how hot off the press this is, and I think I'm allowed to say it, but I'm not in the next Kingsman movie. That doesn't mean I won't be in Kingsman ever again. I was with Matthew [Vaughn] as little as a few days ago, we're still very much in business together, but his next journey in that world doesn't involve me.

Taron Egerton revealed this Kingsman update during his interview with Yahoo about his latest movie, Robin Hood. Judging by the actor's comment, it sounds like he's referring not to the unofficially-classified Kingsman 3, i.e. a direct sequel to Kingsman: The Golden Circle, but the World War I-set prequel movie that's also in development.

In case you haven't been keeping track of what's happening with the Kingsman film series, a sequel to the first two Kingsman movies is in the works, and it's said that it will mark the conclusion of the Eggsy/Harry Hart relationship. It wouldn't make any sense for Eggsy not to appear in Kingsman 3, so this is likely what he's referring to when he says he's still "in business" with director Matthew Vaughn, who directed, co-wrote and produced Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

However, before we get that adventure, we'll be winding the clock back a century to explore the formation of the Kingsman organization in the Kingsman prequel, which is called Kingsman: The Great Game. A Kingsman movie is currently dated for November 8, 2019, and it was reported back in September that the prequel was snagging that slot. So naturally it wouldn't make any sense for Eggsy to appear in the next Kingsman movie since it will be many decades before he's even born. Well, unless he were to appear in bookend scenes set in the present day, but Taron Egerton's comment rules that out.

All we know about Kingsman: The Great Game so far is that Ralph Fiennes has been tapped to play the man who spearheads Kingsman's creation during the Great War. Fiennes will reportedly be joined by Maleficent II star Harris Dickinson. Despite this prequel resulting in Kingsman 3 being delayed, Taron Egerton sounds optimistic about what Matthew Vaugh has in store. The actor added:

His idea for the new one is incredibly exciting. I'm sad that I won't be on that journey with him but it's not the last you've seen of Eggsy.

It's also worth mentioning that Kingsman 3 and Kingsman: The Great Game aren't all that's in store for the franchise. A Statesman spinoff is also in development, focusing on the American secret agent organization introduced in The Golden Circle, as is an eight-episode Kingsman TV series. So if you're a fan of these action-packed spy stories, there's a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

As mentioned earlier, Kingsman: The Great Game will be released in late 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for updates on both the prequel and the rest of the Kingsman franchise.
