Kelly Clarkson Is Seriously Psyched To Be In The Greatest Showman Cover Album

Despite some mediocre reviews, Hugh Jackman's latest movie musical has quickly become a cult favorite. The Greatest Showman made a ton of money when it arrive in theaters last December, and has remained at the forefront of pop culture in the year since. The movie is perhaps best known for its fantastic music by Pasek and Paul, with the soundtrack proving endlessly popular.

Now The Greatest Showman has taken a page from Hamilton, and released an album of covers by popular recording artists. American Idol legend Kelly Clarkson sang a song in that album, and she's also got a track in the Greatest Showman tribute, singing Jenny Lind's ballad "Never Enough". Clarkson recently spoke to her involvement in the project, revealing:

I don't know if it had anything to do with this, but it may have happened because I went to the Golden Globes to represent The Voice and I ended up presenting [Pasek and Paul] with their award. And when I handed them their Golden Globe, they were like, 'Oh my God, we're such big fans,' and I was like, 'You have no idea, man.' So I don't know if that sparked maybe an idea about it. But they were really nice [when I recorded "Never Enough"]. They were like, 'We tried to imagine who could pull this off if we asked them to do this song.' And I was so glad they picked me. Obviously any singer loves to be able to just wail on an emotional song like that. It was a perfect fit for me, personally. I just loved the song so much.

It looks like the Golden Globes may have served as a vehicle to get Kelly Clarkson on The Greatest Showman Reimagined. That, and the mutual respect she and the songwriters had for each other. It's a good thing, because Clarkson's track is already one of the standouts of the new album.

Kelly Clarkson's comments to EW show how excited the singer and TV personality is to be singing one of Greatest Showman's biggest songs. While Jenny Lind is arguably the film's biggest villain, the OG American Idol belts out the track enough to get Hugh Jackman's P.T. Barnum to fall in love with her, too. Poor Michelle Williams.

"Never Enough" is an interesting song in The Greatest Showman, not only for how it functions within the greater story. But also because actress Mission: Impossible actress Rebecca Ferguson didn't actually lend her voice to the character.

While she played Jenny Lind onscreen, her singing voice was provided by The Voice contestant Loren Allred. Kelly's putting her own spin on the song, and will appear in the album alongside artists like P!nk, Panic! At The Disco, and Pentatonix.

The Greatest Showman Reimagined is available now. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
