New Godzilla: King Of Monsters Image Goes Biblical

How does one even describe a movie monster as iconic as Godzilla? Sometimes you have to go old school. Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Mike Dougherty recently posted a new image of the massive creature on social media, and accompanying that image is a quote from the Bible. It's from the Book of Job and compares Godzilla to the Leviathan. Check it out.

The image itself is pretty nice. Godzilla is illuminated by a flash of lightning that has been perfectly timed. While the creature isn't in the midst of destroying anything, what the picture does show is just how massive he is. The skyscrapers below him look like nothing. The helicopters around him look like bugs. There is truly nothing on Earth that is equal to Godzilla.

In The Bible's Book of Job God describes his role in controlling the cosmic forces of the universe to Job, and describes in detail the massive sea creature known as Leviathan. These are the lines being quoted here alongside a picture of another creature that comes from the deep of the ocean and has the ability to destroy anything it touches, the massive Godzilla.

Of course, while Godzilla may be a creature of biblical proportions, he's actually quite modern. The monster was created in the post World War II era as part of Japan's response to living in a post-atomic bomb world, and coping with being the victim of the device. Godzilla would go on to become one of the most popular pop culture exports from Japan, as the rest of the world became fans of the original Toho Studios films. Hollywood has had its own love affair with the character, though it hasn't always worked out.

Although, while nothing may be equal of Godzilla, that doesn't mean there won't be those that try. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will include several other classic Japanese movie monsters for Godzilla to do battle with. By the end, one assumes the title of "King" of the monsters will be secure.

In the end, that will only lead to the biggest battle of them all, as Godzilla vs. Kong is actually going into production now, which will bring the title character of Kong: Skull Island together with the new, modern Godzilla as part of the larger massive movie monster cinematic universe that has been in development.

The first Godzilla movie had its issues, but once it got to the part where Godzilla got into a massive brawl, it seems like most people enjoyed themselves. Since the new film seems to be placing more emphasis on giant monsters beating the snot out of each other, it seems like it may be more what people are looking for from start to finish. We'll find out when Godzilla: King of the Monsters arrives in theaters next year.
