Avengers: Endgame Trailer Sets New Record As Most-Viewed In History

To the shock of no one, the first Avengers: Endgame trailer just broke the record for most views in 24 hours. Marvel actually broke its own previous record, for Avengers: Infinity War, and boasted about the new win:

Yes, the artist formerly known as Avengers 4 basically broke the internet yesterday with its long-awaited trailer -- and title news, and release date change. This is how you do it. That said, what are they going to do from here? Despite the Endgame title, the MCU has movies planned for years into the future. But it's hard to picture something on the docket that could compete with this level of hype. Everything will be compared to this movie.

The previous record was held by the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer, which was watched 230 million times in one day. This new record of 289 million really snaps that into dust. Disney recently boasted about The Lion King's first teaser, which earned 224.6 million global views in 24 hours, making it Disney's most-viewed debut ever.

The official teaser trailer for IT currently follows the first Avengers trailers and Lion King teaser for most views online in one day. That horror film had 197 million views, so we're keeping an eye out for the first trailer for IT: Chapter 2.

IT is currently followed by the second official Avengers: Infinity War trailer, which suggests the second trailer for Avengers: Endgame will also end up in the top five.

If you're keeping track of dates, the first Infinity War trailer arrived November 29, 2017, and the second official trailer was March 16, 2018. It's not clear how Marvel will handle future Endgame trailers, since Captain Marvel is in play with its March 8, 2019 opening.

Speaking of Captain Marvel, that first trailer dropped in September and took No. 13 on the list of most-viewed trailers in 24 hours, picking up 109 million views. Other top viewed online trailers include The Fate of the Furious, Thor: Ragnarok, Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Fifty Shades Darker, Incredibles 2, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and -- lookie what we got here -- Pokemon: Detective Pikachu.

Most of those trailers are in the Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm family, or otherwise different blockbusters like the Fast franchise. But Fifty Shades Darker? Sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey? Good for them. No, really. Good for anyone who can break through the action/comic book blockade.

Of course, those numbers are just for the first 24 hours. That has become something of a benchmark for trailers, but the views will just keep on coming as fans dissect every moment for clues. Avengers: Endgame is coming sooner than we thought, but it's still four months away, in April 26, 2019. We don't know when the next teaser/trailer/promo will arrive, but it's hard to imagine it could top the insane build-up for this one.

There are still several weeks left to the 2018 film calendar, with so many amazing releases ahead for 2019. It's going to be a jam-packed year. But will there be anything that can rival Avengers: Endgame for views or box office?

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
