The Rock Cast His Own Puppy In Hobbs And Shaw And Yes It's Adorable

Just don't let this puppy get the John Wick treatment! Dwayne Johnson is embracing nepotism as both a star and producer of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. He recently introduced "the biggest star of the movie, Hobbs himself," aka his own real-life French bulldog, which he named after his Fast and Furious character Luke Hobbs. Johnson -- called DJ on set, apparently -- came in on his day off to train Mini Hobbs through his role. Check out the proud papa's set video:

All together now: Awwwwww. I already like this mini Hobbs much better than the big one. And I bet this Hobbs would get along better with Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw. Please say there's at least one Shaw/Mini Hobbs bonding scene in this movie.

As Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson explained in his Instagram caption, he adopted both Hobbs and his younger brother Brutus about three years ago. Johnson has posted about the dogs before, and even shared a close call story with the two puppies back in 2015, right after he got them and had to save Brutus from drowning in the pool.

It sounds like poor Brutus didn't get to live very long in this world, but Hobbs is living for both of them now.

Hobbs is about to be a big movie star, and takes after his dad with his no-nonsense attitude -- even dropping "a steaming 3 curler right in the middle of the set." (Hopefully that's not the kind of thing The Rock has done on a set, but he sounded proud of his little son's, um, contribution.) In the video, Dwayne Johnson praised Hobbs' performance, saying he was very disciplined and professional -- unlike his owner/father.

Hobbs & Shaw recently showed off its first trailer, and The Rock is already in full pitchman mode, both promoting and defending the spinoff film, even though the movie won't come out until August 2. He's probably right to get an early start in this packed year, since pretty soon it's going to be Superhero City right up until this movie arrives.

Hobbs & Shaw is the ninth film in the ongoing Fast and Furious franchise, and the first spinoff. There is still a Fast 9 film scheduled for April 2020, but most likely without The Rock, since that films fairly soon and The Rock has nine million other projects in the works.

In addition to Hobbs the adorable French bulldog, Hobbs & Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, and Helen Mirren.

Obviously, Hobbs the dog should get the next spinoff, and maybe pair up with the new dogs in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, plus Captain Marvel's cat Goose. I should say I'm just joking, but I'm not. I won't even pretend that's not the kind of content I'll show up early to see.

Watch badass "sumbitch" Hobbs Johnson -- plus the rest of the cast -- when Hobbs & Shaw opens in theaters on August 2, 2019. Here's what else is playing in theaters in this very busy year.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
