Martin Scorsese's The Irishman Trailer Will Have You Begging For More

Martin Scorsese has had a distinguished career in Hollywood for decades, and for his latest project, he’s stepping into a new realm: streaming. His long-anticipated movie The Irishman was picked up by Netflix back in 2017, and two years later, we finally have our first trailer for the crime film that has us craving even more material. Take a look!

Netflix dropped the first trailer for The Irishman during the 91st Academy Awards tonight, and while there sadly wasn’t any footage included, we do hear dialogue from some of the stars, specifically Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. While De Niro, along with Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel, have worked with Martin Scorsese plenty of times in the past, The Irishman actually marks the first time that Scorsese and Pacino have collaborated. This teaser does a good job of channeling suspense and intrigue with the eerie music and bullet casing falling, but fingers crossed we get a more traditional Irishman trailer relatively soon.

The Irishman was first announced back in 2014, and while Paramount Pictures originally planned to release the movie domestically, after the original source of financing fell through, Netflix swooped in and agreed to take on the costs. This is Netflix’s most expensive movie yet, with the budget rising upwards of $175 million due to all the visual effects being used into making Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and other actors look decades younger, similar to what’s been done in Marvel movies like Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War, and 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. So it goes without saying that Netflix is hoping that a lot of people will be checking this one out.

The fourth movie to see Robert De Niro and Al Pacino co-starring together (the previous ones being The Godfather Part II, Heat and Righteous Kill), The Irishman sees De Niro playing labor union official Frank Sheehan, who recalls his role in killing labor union leader Jimmy Hoffa, who Pacino is portraying. Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel are playing mobsters Russell Bufalino and Angelo Bruno, respectively, and the rest of The Irishman’s impressive cast includes Anna Paquin, Bobby Cannavale, Sebastian Maniscalco, Ray Romano, Stephen Graham, Domenick Lombardozzi and Jeremy Luke. Schindler’s List’s Steven Zaillian wrote the script, which is based off Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses.

The Irishman will be released on Netflix this fall and will also have a limited theatrical run. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for continuing coverage. In the meantime, look through our 2019 release schedule to find out what movies will be screening in theaters later this year.
