Titanic’s Iconic Car Handprint Is Still There Today

Over the years, James Cameron has directed some of the most iconic scenes with films like Terminator, Aliens and Avatar, though his arguably his memorable movie to date is still 1997’s 11-time Oscar winner Titanic. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s Jack and Rose have a beautiful and heartbreaking love story that will always have our hearts go on… and apparently one steamy handprint. Take a look:

Do you see it? On the top right of the rear window of the antique car, you can still make out the handprint from Rose when the pair shared a hot and heavy moment in Titanic, 22 years later. James Cameron shared the photo on his Twitter from his personal museum of props he’s collected over the years. You can also see a T-800 endoskeleton from the Terminator franchise right below the handprint as well!

While the handprint signifies Rose’s during the love scene, it actually belongs to director James Cameron himself, which had to be preserved with a spray so the steamy scene wouldn’t evaporate the imprint on the car window. James Cameron’s recent photo is a cool callback to his timeless film that will certainly get fans thinking back to Jack and Rose’s star-crossed romance. The fact that over 20 years has passed since the release of Titanic, and the director can still share behind-the-scenes tidbits like this and receive such a reaction shows the staying power of the blockbuster and Best Picture winner.

James Cameron has since reunited with Kate Winslet, who was added as a star of the upcoming Avatar sequels, which are currently in the works. Cameron has been busy shooting Avatar 2 and 3 back-to-back in anticipation for their December 2020 and 2021 release dates. Motion capture photography has wrapped, but the film still has a good five months of action sequences left to film, according to the director.

The director has also recently returned to his Terminator franchise as producer. The upcoming sixth entry, currently titled Terminator: Dark Fate, will be his first time working on the series since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day. It sees the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton and will ignore all franchise events after T2. Dark Fate is coming to theaters this November.

James Cameron has also recently seen his longtime project open in theaters, Alita: Battle Angel. The co-writer and producer has been envisioning the sci-fi visual spectacle since 2003. While the $170 million budget action flick has only cracked $60 million so far domestically, the movie has been saved by the foreign market, which has made over $264 million so far.

The director may have a lot of new features since Titanic, especially right now but it’s nice to see him go back to the beginnings and share props such as the iconic handprint over 20 years later.
