Fast And Furious 9 Started Filming, Here’s How Vin Diesel And Michelle Rodriguez Celebrated

Letty and Dom back for Fast and Furious 9

It’s finally happening. Last year, the already-announced Fast and Furious 9 ended up getting delayed by a whole year in order to make room for Hobbs & Shaw, a spinoff of the original franchise starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. However, that movie is about to come out, which means that Fast & Furious 9 is finally getting off the ground.

To celebrate, two of the main cast members in the franchise, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, took the time to record a video from the first day on set. Catch it yourself below.

Although we can't see much from the actual set, except for some wilderness and a group of people busily doing their jobs for the upcoming flick, the message is very typical of the Fast family and very sincere from both Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez (the latter of whom was once a question mark for the ninth movie in this long-running franchise after making comments about the film's lack of representation). As part of the post Vin Diesel said:

We just completed our first day. It feels like a miracle. One hard-earned.

He goes on to explain he’s grateful to the studio and to the fans that have stuck with this franchise over the years. All in all, his words are not something that's majorly new for Vin Diesel in regards to Fast and Furious movies, but it's still a nice way to celebrate and always a nice thing for the fans to hear.

Now that production has started on the still unofficially titled Fast and Furious 9, we should be learning quite a bit more about the movie coming up. So far, we do know the flick will officially hit theaters on May 22, 2020. That's 10 months after Hobbs and Shaw will make its big budget debut. Justin Lin is said to be directing the new movie, and many of the main characters like Dom, Letty, and Roman will be back. Plus, the biggest news we've heard so far is that Jordana Brewster's Mia Torretto will be back in the fold for the ninth movie.

OK, maybe that's not the biggest news, as John Cena is also seemingly in the upcoming film, and he's certainly bigger than Jordana Brewster, physically at least. Still, new characters are cool and all, but I'm always interested in how returning characters will fit back into the fold.

Again, this stuff is all quite a long time away, as production just started on Fast and Furious 9 and we really aren't even that close to Hobbs and Shaw's release date yet. Still, doubtless there will be plenty of cool stuff to talk and speculate about, including what the flick will be competing with at the usually-crowded summer box office. Stay tuned, and keep an eye on what we've already learned about Fast and Furious 9 so far.
