Dwayne Johnson Shares Epic Stunt Video From Hobbs And Shaw

The trailers for Hobbs & Shaw have made it clear that even eight films in to the Fast & Furious franchise, the series still has plenty of gas left in the tank when it comes to amazing stunts and over-the-top action set pieces. In advance of the film’s upcoming August release, star Dwayne Johnson has shared an epic stunt video from the set of the spinoff film. Check it out:

That’ll take the wind out of you. All that clanging and banging Dwayne Johnson does in the gym clearly isn’t all for show as here, he lifts a guy over his head, with a cable assist, and slams him down in epic fashion. After the slam, The Rock crouches down with his hands on his knees, a stance reminiscent of his wrestling days, making it seem like he was about to deliver a Rock Bottom should his foe get up.

In his Instagram post, Dwayne Johnson hilariously made sure to let everyone know that he could have done this slam without the cable and doesn’t need such help to “toss fools up.” This stunt looks cool even in this raw behind-the-scenes look and with the rain coming down and the lightning effects it should look even cooler when we get to see it in the final film.

This stunt appears to be from the fight between Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw against Idris Elba’s black Superman Brixton glimpsed in the trailers. Although, while it’s hard to tell, that doesn’t appear to be Idris Elba that The Rock is slamming but presumably his stuntman. It’s also tough to tell if that is Jason Statham diving away or his stuntman but there is no mistaking Dwayne Johnson.

Judging by the trailers and the fact that the three are fighting in a downpour with thunder cracking, reminiscent of Jack versus The Man in Black on Lost, this seemed like it could be the film’s final fight and Dwayne Johnson basically confirms that here, calling it the “epic finale.” It certainly looks epic, thanks to the ominous setting and the fact that it is a hand-to-hand fight following a film’s worth of gun, car, motorcycle and helicopter battles.

The showdown will see a two-on-one fight as frenemies Hobbs and Shaw face off with the first true superpowered supervillain in the Fast & Furious franchise. As capable as Hobbs and Shaw have proven to be in past Fast & Furious films, they’ll be the underdogs here and will presumably have to truly work together, which given their mutual hatred is no small feat, in order to prevail.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw races into theaters on August 2. Check out our 2019 Release Schedule to keep track of all the biggest movies still to come this year.
