Kevin Smith Shows Off New Bluntman And Chronic Poster For Jay And Silent Bob Reboot

Jay and Silent Bob as Bluntman and Chronic

With reboot and remakes more plentiful than ever, director Kevin Smith has decided to tackle the craze head-on in his latest View Askewniverse entry, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.

Where Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back saw the eponymous duo traveling to Hollywood to disrupt the making of a Bluntman and Chronic movie, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is going in a completely direction by having the two go back to Hollywood… to disrupt the making of a Bluntman and Chronic reboot. Ok, so it’s really not that different.

In any case, while Jay and Silent Bob’s latest cinematic adventure will unfold similarly as last time, the new Bluntman and Chronic movie definitely doesn’t look just like its predecessor, as evidenced by this faux poster for the reboot that Kevin Smith posted.

Kevin Smith is holding a panel for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend (right after the big Marvel Studios presentation), during which time the first trailer and the Bluntman and Chronic “scene within a scene” from the movie will be screened.

Those not in attendance will get to see the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot trailer soon after, but between then and now, Kevin Smith has decided to share some images he hasn’t made public yet, starting off with this poster. So keep your eyes peeled on his Instagram in the coming days for more special looks at the movie.

Within the View Askewniverse, moviegoers can look forward to the new Bluntman and Chronic hitting theaters sometime in the summer, and unlike in the original movie, a woman has taken on the Chronic mantle. Maybe it’s just me, but the way the two heroes are posed brings to mind 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

While Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is packed with cameos, from Chris Hemsworth and Joe Manganiello to Grant Gustin and Method Man, there’s no one from the announced lineup who really match the two people seen above. But, as Kevin Smith said, the first Jay and Silent Bob Reboot trailer will reveal who are behind the masks. It’s also worth mentioning that Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek will be playing “themselves” again, but we shouldn’t expect them to put their own Bluntman and Chronic costumes on… right?

While it’s been nearly 20 years since Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back came out, the hetero-life mates last appeared on the big screen in 2006’s Clerks II. Since then Kevin Smith has kept occupied with other directorial, writing and podcasting endeavors (including the upcoming Howard the Duck series for Hulu), but now he’s returning to the world he created when he kicked off his filmmaking career with Clerks.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot doesn’t have an assigned release date yet, although Kevin Smith says it’ll be sometime in the fall. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for a specific date and any other developments. For now, look through our 2019 release schedule to see what’s already on the calendar.
