Domhnall Gleeson Says The Rise Of Skywalkers’ Script Was ‘Different’ Than What He Thought It’d Be

Hux in The Last Jedi

The Star Wars franchise is one of the most beloved properties in film history, reaching across generations and making billions at the box office. And the decades of movies will all come to a head with J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The upcoming sequel will complete the nine-movie Skywalker Saga, while also wrapping up the sequel trilogy's story. And according to Hux actor Domnhall Gleeson, the story might just surprise us.

Star Wars has always been a franchise full of twists, with the most obvious being Vader being Luke's father in Empire Strikes Back. The sequel trilogy has certainly packed plenty of unexpected turns, especially in the handling of the original trio of heroes. Domnhall Gleeson will play General Hux for the third time in The Rise of Skywalker, and recently teased the surprising nature of the script, saying:

It was cool, it was a page-turner. It was different than what I had thought. It was great. It was exciting. And, also, you feel part of this tiny club that gets to read these things ahead of other people and that feels great. I really did enjoy that. I think it's gonna be cool.

While being careful not to actually reveal anything about its contents, Domnhall Gleeson's tease about the Rise of Skywalker's script is sure to excite the generations of fans out there. J.J. Abrams is going to have to pull out all the stops for Episode IX, and it seems the script is really standing on its own.

Domnhall Gleeson's comments to Collider will no doubt be a relief for Star Wars fans who might be nervous about the upcoming blockbuster. Star Wars fans are very passionate about the franchise, sometimes to a fault. And when the contents of The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story failed to impress naysayers, there was some faith lost about the galaxy far, far away.

The pressure is certainly on for J.J Abrams to bring a satisfying conclusion to the narrative he started with The Force Awakens, and the overall Star Wars franchise as we know it. The upcoming blockbuster will bring the trio of new heroes back together, in a mysterious final battle against Kylo Ren and the First Order.

Adam Driver's villain will likely be key to the plot, as he ascended to Supreme Leader after murdering Snoke in The Last Jedi. Episode IX will be the last chance for his soul to be saved, and brought back to the Light Side of The Force. And wherever Kylo is, Donhall Gleeson's General Hux will likely not be far from view. That not so dynamic duo will also be joined by Richard E. Grant's newcomer Allegiant General Pryde.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will arrive in theaters on December 20th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
