The DC live-action universe is usually full of surprises, as Warner Bros. moves forward with its developing projects largely depending on how the previous release have fared. While the shared universe began with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, things took a drastic change following the disappointing performance of Justice League. But that hasn't stopped Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan from campaigning to play the Flashpoint version of Batman aka Thomas Wayne.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan had a brief cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, playing Bruce Wayne's ill-fated father. Thomas and Martha perished in the movie's opening sequence, but Morgan has expressed interest in reprising the role in an adaptation of the Flashpoint comics. The iconic plot line is set in an alternate dimension, where Thomas Wayne survived and became his own brutal version of The Batman. The Watchmen alum spoke about the possibility, saying:
Look, I don't know, I mean if there's a chance that would ask me, I'd say yes. I think the Flashpoint story is, it's my favorite story. I would love to do it. But, you know, DC is DC and they're, you know, it's a constant... it seems like they're always kinda switching up who's running it and what they're gonna do. So hopefully, what I'd like to see is a little continuity with DC, have them get on the track, and then, man I'd be honored and love to do it more than anything.
Despite how the DCEU has changed over the years, Jeffrey Dean Morgan would still love to play Thomas Wayne's Batman in a Flashpoint adaptation. But whether or not this ever actually happens remains to be seen. Still, it's a concept that comic book fans will be excited about.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan's comments to Comic Book show how much he truly loves Flashpoint, and the narrative possibilities Geoff Johns' 2011 series. Bruce Wayne is defined by losing his parents as a young boy, eventually leading him to become Gotham's Dark Knight. But it turns out that tragedy and vigilantism was always in the cards for The Waynes, and the city they call home.
Flashpoint follows Barry Allen as he wakes up in an alternate timeline. In that world it was a young Bruce Wayne who was killed on that fateful day, with Martha and Thomas Wayne surviving their attack. Thomas became a vicious version of Batman starting by killing the robber who took his son. But the traumatic event also broke the psyche of Martha, who became her own twisted take on the Joker.
It's a stark juxtaposition to the Batman we know and love, which is likely why Jeffrey Dean Morgan loves the Flashpoint story so much. It answers the "What If?" question surrounding the Waynes' death, and showed how Batman and Joker were inevitabilities in Gotham City. Because if it wasn't Bruce and the Clown Prince of Crime, there would still be the eternal struggle of good vs evil in the iconic comic book setting.
Since Jeffrey Dean Morgan already played Thomas Wayne in his brief Batman v Superman scene, it would be epic to see he and Walking Dead co-star Lauren Cohan reprising their roles as alternate version of Bruce's parents. But there may be some roadblocks in the way, namely the mysterious plot of The Flash's movie, as well as Ben Affleck's departure from the role of Batman.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice introduced Ben Affleck's version of The Dark Knight, showing an experienced and jaded crimefighter. While fans loved this take on Batman, the Oscar winning filmmaker hung up the cape and cowl following the disappointing performance of Justice League. It's unclear how Robert Pattinson's upcoming debut in The Batman will alter the timeline, and if there will be a new Martha and Thomas in Matt Reeves' upcoming DC blockbuster.

While Flashpoint was previously rumored to be the inspiration behind Ezra Miller's long gestating Flash movie, it's currently unclear what IT Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti has planned for the movie. Given all the DCEU shakeups, it seems unlikely that the developing movie will focus on an alternate timeline, especially with Ben Affleck gone and Henry Cavill's status as Superman unclear.
We'll just have to wait and hope like Jeffrey Dean Morgan, as there are plenty of DC fans who would jump at a chance to see Flashpoint adapted on the big screen. The DCEU has been on a roll with movies like Shazam! and Aquaman, so hopefully it'll happen eventually.
