Subscribe To Watch Angry Star Wars Nerd Freddie Prinze Jr. Go Off On Ignorant Fans Updates
Freddie Prinze Jr. became famous as the high school hunk type in She's All That, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and even Scooby-Doo. But he's high-key a massive Star Wars nerd. He voiced tragic hero Kanan Jarrus in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Viewers aren't used to seeing his face in Star Wars movies, but he is very much part of the team -- and he's vocal about canon. Freddie is no casual fan, he will f-bomb shout you down in an epic canon rant, angrily explaining how The Force works and blasting fanfiction bullshit about "Gray Jedi." Yes, Fred from Scooby-Doo gets quite heated in the face of fans who "bitch about the dumbest shit."
Watch Freddie Prinze Jr.'s full NSFW rant from Jeff Dye's Friendship Podcast, and/or read his quotes below it:
"Star Wars is for fucking kids," he says, and Freddie Prinze Jr. may have been channeling an R-rated version of George Lucas there. Lucas himself reportedly said Star Wars was a film for 12-year-olds, sharing lessons of friendships, honesty, trust, doing the right thing, living in the light, and avoiding the dark side. But Prinze is very much an adult at 43-years-old and still a huge Star Wars fan. He's as invested as a Star Wars fan gets, dropping truths from George Lucas and dissecting fan theories and complaints. As he began his speech...
Star Wars isn't presented as a fairy tale, so fans may not want to look at Luke Skywalker in the same way as Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. He doesn't burst into song or talk with animals ... but then again, in a way he does for R2-D2, and Han Solo does for Chewie. Leia was the one who bonded with Ewoks.
Freddie Prinze Jr. continued by schooling fans about The Force, as he was taught by Star Wars Rebels creator and an executive producer Dave Filoni, who was later promoted to oversee all Lucasfilm Animation projects.
I'm curious about the part where he suggests if you understand The Force balance you'll know who will win and lose in the next Star Wars films:
Spill it or it never happened! Here's more from Freddie Prinze Jr. as he dissects fan favorite characters and their archetypes:
Oh, and here he is blasting Gray Jedi:
Phew! He may think Star Wars is for kids, but that f-bomb rant was definitely aimed at adults. Do you agree with any or all of his points? What do you think about Star Wars being for kids, and some adults are upset at the franchise not aging with them? There have been fan complaints about Star Wars since the Ewoks showed up (I still love you guys) and they got more heated with the prequels and really took off with Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
At the same time, The Force has achieved balance there too -- millions of original fans still love Star Wars, and the franchise is picking up new young fans all the time. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has the record for the highest-grossing movie of all time at the domestic U.S./Canada box office. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ends the Skywalker saga this December, but Lucasfilm's franchise is still continuing on the big and small screens.
