ReelBlend #88 - Talking Zombieland: Double Tap With Director Ruben Fleischer

Powered by RedCircle

Sequels, in this industry, are never guaranteed. And usually, the longer a fanbase has to wait, the less chance they’ll ever have of getting to spend more time in a world they appreciate, with characters they have grown to love.

So imagine all of our surprises when it was announced that 10 years after Zombieland took theaters by storm, the original cast all was returning for the playful sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap. Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jessie Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin all reprise their roles from the 2009 breakout zombie comedy, and there are several new and equally funny faces on display in the new story.

Which is why we had Zombieland: Double Tap director on ReelBlend this week, to take a deep (but mostly spoiler-free) conversation into the long process to get a Zombieland sequel into production, the future of the franchise, and so much more.

Nut up, shut up, and press play on this week’s episode right now.

As you will hear, we are down a man once again as Kevin McCarthy vacations around the globe. So Sean and Jake hold down the fort, and discuss the recent trailers for Jungle Cruise, Pixar’s next animated feature Onward, and the Robert Downey Jr. film, Dolittle. That one you kind of have to see for yourself, so we’re including it below.

From there, Sean and Jake get into the El Camino movie on Netflix, discussing whether it was worth Vince Gilligan’s time to return to the world of Breaking Bad for a coda story for Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). They also get into this week’s releases, allowing Sean to review The Lighthouse with Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, and Jake to dissect Jojo Rabbit, the latest from Taika Waititi.
