Subscribe To Bloodshot Trailer: Vin Diesel’s New Comic Book Role Is Way More Violent Than Groot Updates
When it comes to comic book movies, the market has been largely dominated by the heroes of Marvel and DC. However, there are actually many more heroes, and anti-heroes, out there, and Vin Diesel is bringing one of them to life to see if it can make a claim on the genre's box office success. And now we have our first look at Bloodshot.
The first trailer for the new film has all the action that you've come to expect from your average comic book movie, but this one is looking to differentiate itself by being a bit more bloody than your average comic book movie. It's also looks to have a story that might be a bit more compelling than the standard hero versus villain dynamic. Check out the trailer below.
The story sees Vin Diesel as a soldier who was killed, but has been brought back to life through cutting edge nanotechnology. When he wakes up his focus is on killing the person who killed his wife. It's a fairly standard story, which makes the trailer's twist that much more interesting. It turns out Diesel's character is having his memories intentionally manipulated so that he can be used a weapon, killing whomever his creators deem necessary.
It's a nice twist on a standard formula that might make Bloodshot a bit more interesting. We'll have to wait and see.
The trailer still has a lot of the things we would expect from "comic book movies." Vin Diesel's character isn't that different from Captain America in premise. It's just that this is what would happen if Captain America were being utilized by less than noble people. Still, that's an interesting starting point. The twist in the trailer is so good that it makes you wish that had been able to be concealed, because it would have made the movie that much more interesting to have the reveal happen there.
It's also got a bad guy with multiple mechanical arms, which screams "comic book movie" pretty loud even if the rest of the trailer doesn't.
Bloodshot certainly isn't a comic book that has the [name recognition](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloodshot(comics) with the general audience that most Marvel or DC characters have. Still, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. _Bloodshot looks like a gritty action movie from Vin Diesel, and that might be all that it takes to sell it. Even if you're not a big comic book movie fan, but you are a fan of the Riddick franchise, then Bloodshot may be the perfect movie for you.
I, for one, am certainly more interested in Bloodshot after seeing the trailer than I was before it, and at the end of the day that's a successful trailer. Besides, when your villain is Guy Pierce you can almost do no wrong.
Bloodshot hits theaters in February.
