Thor’s Quantum Suit Originally Had Asgardian Flare In Avengers: Endgame

Thor in his Quantum Suit

Avengers: Endgame might have arrived in theaters back in April, but new information about the massive blockbuster is still arriving weekly. The Russo Brothers were tasked with the difficult task of crafting the massive story, and making sure each bit of visual effects looks perfect. There was a ton of CGI used in the record breaking movie, including the heroes' Quantum Suits for the Time Heist. And it looks like Thor's look originally had a bit of Asgardian flare.

Thor had a fascinating story in Avengers: Endgame, especially following the five-year time jump. Thor struggled with guilt, trauma, and depression following Thanos' snap, and it took some convincing to recruit him back onto the team. He eventually traveled to Asgard in 2013 with Rocket, rocking a Quantum Suit in the process. New concept art reveals one way Thor's suit would have looked different from the rest: his signature cape. Check it out below.

Sorry, Edna Mode but Thor is caped hero. And he was originally going to rock that signature accessory during the Time Heist, before the Quantum Suits were made uniform for the entire team.

This new image is from the book Marvel's Avengers: Endgame - The Art of the Movie (via Reddit), which features concept images of the Avengers' Quantum Suit. A few designs were tossed around, as the suits were made completely with the magic of CGI. The white and red one costume shown in the movies was were production landed, although Thor could have originally gotten his signature cape in the process.

Cutting the cape makes a great deal of sense, especially considering Thor's storyline in Avengers: Endgame. Thor wasn't feeling very superheroic while living in New Asgard, using food and booze to numb his pain. In fact, he didn't actually work his signature superhero look until the film's third act, when Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America attempted to take Thanos down themselves. That's when the God of Thunder re-entered the picture, wielding Stormbreaker and transforming into his signature look-- cape and all.

With Thor caring so little about his personal appearance throughout Endgame, it stands to reason that he wouldn't be worried about getting a sweet cape for his Quantum Suit. Instead, he did the Time Heist in casual clothes-- in stark juxtaposition to the rest of the team. Luckily, he was also able to reunite with his mother Frigga, and get some words of wisdom that he so desperately needed.

It should be interesting to see what comes next for Chris Hemsworth's signature Marvel hero. Thor ultimately survived Avengers: Endgame, crowning Valkyrie the King of New Asgard before departing toward space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The character will break new ground for the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be the first time a Marvel hero gets a fourth solo flick.

The next installment in the MCU is Black Widow on May 1st, and Thor: Love and Thunder is currently set to arrive in theaters on November 5th, 2021. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies. And our 2020 release list to look ahead toward the New Year.
