Well, never let it be said that Saturday Night Live isn't willing to pitch in and play its part as a member of the NBCUniversal family to help promote Peacock. The late-night comedy had Scarlett Johansson hit the stage for her sixth stint as host last night, and the writers at SNL took the opportunity to give her a monologue that would be funny, remind everyone of her most well-known role, and tell people a little bit about the new streaming service coming up, Peacock.
Scarlett Johansson, of course, is best known for her long-running role as Black Widow (real name Natasha Romanoff) in the Avengers film franchise, as well as three other MCU movies since 2010. While Johansson will, indeed, be returning to the part of the supremely trained agent in Black Widow next year (after Natasha sacrificed herself in Avengers: Endgame), SNL gave Johansson a chance to (somewhat) bring the character back to (sort of) battle Pete Davidson's Thanos. Well, I can bet no one was expecting this Avengers: Infinity War turn of events when they tuned in for Scarlett Johansson's episode of Saturday Night Live this time around! As you can see, even though Johansson left her Black Widow costume in the car, she got some help figuring out this pre-Christmas puzzle from Kenan Thompson's Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, whose character name she had to be reminded of by Weekend Update co-host and one of SNL's head writers, Colin Jost.
It's lucky that Jost made it through Pete Davidson's Snappening time as Thanos, even though Scarlett Johansson didn't seem that thrilled that he was still around. Not only do we currently have a good Weekend Update team in Jost and Michael Che, but Johansson and Jost are engaged to be married, after all.
Once Kenan / Sam / Nick is able to let Scarlett Johansson know that someone else has Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet and leads her to Pete Davidson's sad, booze-filled SNL office, they see he's proudly talking about how he got high, bought it on ebay and snapped away half the cast. And, when they confront him, Davidson gladly admits that he sent everyone to Peacock, where "comedy starts here."
From what we currently know about the shows that Peacock will be taking from other streaming services, at least the slogan seems to be true. Peacock will have exclusive streaming rights for The Office, Cheers, Frasier, 30 Rock, Everybody Loves Raymond, Royal Pains and Psych, as well as newer favorites like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Superstore.
Luckily, unlike all the fisticuffs we're going to see when Black Widow debuts, all Scarlett Johansson had to do was ask nicely and Pete Davidson brought everyone back from Peacock, so when when you get your subscription and try to binge The Office there, you won't have to wonder why Beck Bennett and Aidy Bryant are awkwardly standing around every scene now.
