Alfred Molina Spoiling Doc Ock In Spider-Man: No Way Home Really Seemed To Break Kevin Feige’s Heart

Most actors appearing in Marvel Studios properties know the deal when it comes to spoilers. Details for movies that are on the horizon are to be kept hidden in a vault, and if you let key spoilers slip (we’re looking at you, Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo), you will be teased for it mercilessly by fans and fellow MCU colleagues from now until the end of time. But one man takes this all very seriously, and that’s why Marvel fans love him so much. Which explains why, when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke of Alfred Molina’s spoiler spill for the first time on a red carpet, he looked disappointed, disheartened, and truly pained.

Alfred Molina once played Dr. Otto Octavius in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. It is being rumored that Doc Ock will return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Molina kind of spilled the beans in an interview for an unrelated project. Kevin Feige was asked about this while attending the red carpet for Black Widow, and he told ET:

Uh, you know, people can talk. People get a microphone, some people like to talk. Some people like me, not so much. Everything we make, hopefully (it’s) with the intention of exceeding expectations and fulfilling surprises. Not every rumor you read about online is true. Not by a longshot. But not every one is false, either. So, that’s the fun.

Alfred Molina’s comments happened back in April, while he was promoting a totally different film. When asked about his return as Doctor Octopus, Molina called himself “the worst kept secret in Hollywood,” and went on to elaborate about how it felt to return to a part that he hasn’t played in 17 years. Molina said:

It was wonderful, … It was very interesting going back after 17 years to play the same role, given that in the intervening years, I now have two chins, a wattle, crow’s feet and a slightly dodgy lower back.

How is Alfred Molina’s villain expected to return? Well, if the rumors turn out to be true, Molina and Jamie Foxx will be introduced to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man timeline through the Multiverse. It will be established that they are part of previous worlds that featured Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, respectively. But Spider-Man: No Way Home could end up being a live-action SpiderVerse film, if this all pans out.

You have to watch Kevin Feige’s reaction as he answers the question. Click here to see the video. And then brace for a Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, which has to be arriving some time soon. Right? I mean, Shang-Chi just dropped a second trailer, and Spidey’s sequel arrives in December. What’s the hold up? Show us that beautiful footage!
