Marvel fans began clamoring for a sequel to Black Panther almost immediately after the superhero film premiered in 2018. However, when star Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa/Black Panther) passed away in 2020 after a battle with colon cancer, the plans for the Black Panther sequel had to be rearranged. Now, almost four years after the original film premiered in theaters, production has begun for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - with a thrilling chase scene among the first moments to be filmed.

Filming for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began in late June 2021. The production crew was most recently spotted on location at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Marvel Network posted a behind the scenes clip on Twitter that captured a thrilling car chase that will supposedly appear in the MIT sequence.

The video clip is only 16 seconds, but there’s plenty to observe. We can see a red sports car and an unnamed figure on a motorcycle swinging around a tight curve before speeding down the other street. There’s no recognizable sounds aside from a few spectators commenting on the action. The Marvel Network followed up their initial tweet with a post that intimates members of the Dora Milaje may be inside the vehicles.

In case you need a refresher, the Dora Milaje are the official security detail for the Wakandan royal family. Members include General Okoye, played by the fierce and unforgettable Danai Gurira. This tidbit is juicy in and of itself: why are the Dora Milaje being chased through MIT? The elite fighting force most recently appeared in the Disney+ original series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, where they meet Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in Sokovia to take Baron Zemo into custody. Afterwards, they presumably returned to Wakanda, so what are they doing in the United States?

We have half of the answer (we think). Considering the casting of Dominique Thorn as Ironheart, an MIT student, it’s probable that members of the Dora Milaje traveled to Cambridge to meet up with the tech whiz. Danai Gurira was spotted filming in Cambridge, so its plausible General Okoye might be involved in the car chase. However, Okoye’s last MCU appearance was in Avengers: Endgame, so she had nothing to do with the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. If Okoye is present, the action of Wakanda Forever might have nothing to do with the Dora Milaje’s last appearance. Nevertheless, there’s no shortage of Marvel villains that have come back to enact their revenge, so it’s possible that the Marvel writing team will connect the two projects.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated for a July 8, 2022 theatrical release. You can check out other Marvel release dates here.
