Subscribe To Naomi Watts Fills Charlize Theron's Vacated Seat In J. Edgar Updates
A few weeks back there was some turmoil going on in the casting of Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar. After a story broke back in December that Charlize Theron would be boarding the movie to play J. Edgar Hoover's personal secretary, Helen Gandy, it later turned out to be a misunderstanding between her and representation. Naturally, the question that remained was who would Helen Gandy in Eastwood's newest film? Today we have the answer.

Deadline is reporting that Naomi Watts has officially been cast in the role. Working as Hoover's secretary for 54 years, Gandy was one of her boss' closest confidants and was privy to all the inner workings in the early years of the FBI. When Theron left the project, Watts was the studio's second choice, along with Amy Adams. Also acting in the film will be Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular Hoover; Armie Hammer as Clyde Tolson, Hoover's partner and supposed lover; Ed Westwick as Agent Smith, an operative hired to write Hoover's biography; Judi Dench as Hoover's mother; and Josh Lucas as famed pilot Charles Lindbergh.

Say what you will about the nature of Eastwood's Hoover biopic, but he's certainly putting together one hell of a cast. Look for the film to be tremendously controvertial and raise a few eyebrows, but I highly doubt one of the criticisms will be, "and man did those performances suck."
