New Arthur Trailer: Russell Brand Blasts Through New York In The Batmobile

Play Queen’s “Under Pressure” behind just about anything and I’ll instantly fall in love with it. So you probably shouldn’t listen to anything I have to say about this new trailer for Arthur, because I’m about to tell you that I think it’s really good.

Maybe we didn’t need a remake of Arthur but if someone is going to do it, it seems like they’ve gone about it in the right way here. Russell Brand steps in to take on the role which made the diminutive Dudley Moore oh so briefly famous and this trailer, unlike the last one, gives us a better look at Greta Gerwig in the love interest part played by Liza Minnelli in the original.

Watch the new trailer below or in HD on Apple. We’ll talk more about it after you watch…

So we know Greta Gerwig is Arthur’s inspiration and seems to be filling pretty much exactly the same niche as the character did when played by Minnelli in 1981. What I don’t understand is why she is also dressed like she’s in 1981. This is an updated version, not a period piece, and while everything else about this movie has a modern feel (right down to its Batman Forever era Batmobile) Gerwig looks like she fell through some sort of time tunnel. At least she’s not wearing one of those frumpy, Minnelli blazers with oversized shoulder pads. I’m pretty sure the one she has on in the trailer is Arthur’s.

Get past the nitpicks though, and overall this one did a lot for me than the previous trailer. I’m in. What do you think? Are you excited about Arthur? Let me know in the comments section below.
