Joss Whedon Actually Directed The Last Scene In Thor

Stellan Skarsgard attended Cannes last week to promote a movie that's probably the polar opposite of his most recent film, Thor; he's part of the cast of Lars von Trier's Melancholia, the film he was promoting when he got banned form Cannes, and which won Kirsten Dunst the Best Actress statue at the festival. But because movie news is what it is, of course Skarsgard wound up answering Thor questions at Cannes, and actually had a pretty interesting anecdote to give the interviewer from Empire who asked him about it. If you haven't seen Thor you might not want to read ahead; this includes MILD SPOILERS ABOUT THE FINAL SCENE OF THOR.

"I flew over there and went down into a basement and talked to Sam for a couple of minutes and went back," he said. When Empire asked if it was with Kenneth Branagh, Skarsgard corrected him: "That was with the director Joss Whedon who's doing The Avengers." Given that Skarsgard also said the scene was shot only a few months ago, it probably makes sense for them to help Whedon get his Avengers sea legs by throwing him into a scene with three of that film's major characters. Obviously nobody would have known it was Whedon and not Branagh if Skarsgard hadn't spilled the beans, but now if you see Thor again, you can analyze it as our first evidence of how Whedon handles himself in the Marvel universe.
