Teaser For Rob Zombie's Lords Of Salem Makes Mozart Terrifying

Rob Zombie's new film The Lords of Salem has already premiered for audiences, playing as part of the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and getting a distribution deal form Anchor Bay to the tune of $2 million for its troubles. The movie isn't set to be released until next spring, but the distributor has released a brief teaser for what we can expect. Though it's set to Mozart's Requiem Mass in D Minor, it gives way to some seriously disturbing images that will haunt you probably more than the heavy metal music that made Zombie famous. Take a look at the teaser by clicking the image below and seeing it over at Deadline.

Yup, there are more than a handful of images in there you're not going to be able to shake. In the film Sheri Moon Zombie-- Zombie's wife, naturally-- stars as a Massachusetts radio DJ who plays a mysterious record and begins to see visions of a long-dead witch coven. The Salem of the title,of course, is Salem, Massachusetts, where the famous witch trials occurred and which still draws in plenty of people interested in the supernatural. The film takes place over the course of a week, in which the main character Heidi begins to suffer some serious consequences of the vision she's having, and believes that the coven The Lord of Salem is returning to make the town pay for their previous sins.

Zombie, whose last live-action feature directing effort was the ill-received Halloween II, has been getting a lot of positive notices for Lords of Salem, which Hitfix said "represents a major step forward for Zombie as a director." The film doesn't have a set 2013 release yet, but it sounds like it's something that horror films ought to anticipate-- even if they don't expect much from Zombie based on his previous work.
