The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal Joins Stallone And De Niro In Grudge Match

Jon Bernthal's run on AMC's The Walking Dead may be over (for the most part, anyway), but the actor certainly isn't going anywhere anytime soon. In addition to having a starring role in a new TV pilot in the works, he's also set to appear in The Wolf on Wall Street and now he has another interesting role lined up, playing the son of Robert De Niro's character in Grudge Match.

Directed by Peter Segal, Grudge Match stars De Niro and Sylvester Stallone as two retired fighters who get back into the ring together for one last match to settle an old score. The very idea of the Raging Bull star facing off in the ring against the Rocky star is brimming with potential. Of course, we'll have to see what kind of shape both men are in when they step into the ring. Stallone certainly wasn't looking so bad (understatement) in Expendables 2.

From the sound of it, Bernthal's character will bring an additional dose of tension. Variety reports that the Walking Dead star has signed on to play De Niro's son, "who is conflicted about training the estranged father he has resented for years." He joins Kim Basinger among the cast, in addition to De Niro and Stallone.

Since his departure from The Walking Dead earlier this year, Bernthal has moved on to a role in Frank Darabont's TNT pilot L.A. Noir. He's also set to appear in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, which is expected to arrive in theaters next year. And he's credited for a part in Summit's upcoming film Snitch.
