Exclusive Dredd Blu-ray Bonus Clip Explores Judge Dredd's Comic Roots

The 2012 comic-based film, Dredd was underseen in theaters, excepting a small group of critics, action lover and comic book fanatics that showed up to give the film a shot. Now headed onto 3D Blu-ray, DVD, digital download, and On Demand on January 8, Dredd comes in a set that takes a look and pays homage to the character's development over the years. To celebrate, Lionsgate has put together an exclusive Blu-ray bonus clip to give fans a look into Dredd’s intriguing comic origins.

The minute-long clip, from a featurette called, “Mega-City Master: 35 Years of Judge Dredd,” spends some time with artist Brian Bolland, who discusses 2000 AD’s origin story and how the science fiction comic’s imminent arrival was influenced by Star Wars at the box office. 2000 AD’s co-creator Pat Mills is also interviewed in the clip and discusses how the character of Judge Dredd initially came about. In short, the clip gets a lot of history across in a very quick amount of time and even if you haven’t caught the film yet, it’s still worth a watch.

“Mega-City Masters” is only one of several featurettes available with both the Blu-ray and DVD releases of Dredd. Fans of the movie will also be treated to featurettes encompassing everything from behind-the-scenes footage to the visual effects and the gear that helps Judge Dredd to look like the badass he is.
