Joshua Michael Stern’s Steve Jobs biopic, the awkwardly titled jOBS, will be one of the many movies vying for journalists’ attention at the Sundance Film Festival, which kicks off this week. And because Sterns has uber-celeb Ashton Kutcher in the lead role of Jobs, the film’s getting a nice pre-Sundance boost from national media, which can only help it make a dent once the overcrowded Sundance field kicks into its highest gear.
USA Today, for instance, ran a jOBS photo that also gives us our first look at co-star Josh Gad in character as Steve Wozniak, a computer engineer and programmer who co-founded Apple with Jobs and Ronald Wayne. Here’s the shot:
Stern’s movie has been programmed as the Closing Night film for this year’s Sundance fest. After it screens, it will slide off the radar until April, when mainstream audiences will be able to get a full look at the on-screen tribute to the Apple co-founder’s earliest days.
A lot has been made of Kutcher’s resemblance to a young Steve Jobs. Most of us probably associate his name and likeness to the presentations he made in recent years introducing the latest Apple technologies. And while I’m a die-hard Apple guy, I confess ignorance to the path that Jobs and Wozniak took to form this groundbreaking company. So I’m really hoping that jOBS does an admirable job (no pun intended) of capturing the trials and tribulations of the genius’s early days.
