Anchorman: The Legend Continues is happening. Adam McKay is directing based on a script he co-wrote with Will Ferrell; all of the major stars from the first movie, including Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell, David Koechner and Christina Applegate, are coming back; Kristen Wiig has signed on for role; and we know that there will musical numbers. But outside of that baseline information the highly anticipated comedy sequel is largely a mystery. As of yet plot details haven't been released and we have no idea what kind of antics the Channel 4 news team will be getting up to. However, today we learn that whatever the plot involves it could feature Terence Stamp playing a version of the world's most notorious media mogul.
A reader over at Ain't It Cool recently attended a screening of Paul Andrew Williams' upcoming film Song For Marion in the UK that was followed by a Q&A session with Terence Stamp, and during the forum the legendary actor revealed that he has been talking with "Will Ferrell's people" about a possible role in the Anchorman sequel. He told the audience that he could end up playing a "Rupert Murdoch-type figure" and that he'd love to do it, but that as of now there hasn't been a formal offer.
But that isn't the only cool little tidbit that Stamp delivered. He also revealed that he has actually written a "'loose' sequel" to Steven Soderbergh's 1999 thriller The Limey, in which he starred as a man looking for the man he believes is responsible for the death of his daughter. While it doesn't sound like there are any concrete plans for the project in place, it would star both Stamp and Julie Christie. The audience member says the plot revolves "around an aging gangster going after the ex-partner who betrayed him and married his lover (Christie). The project halted when both Soderbergh and Christie retired from the business, and he wasn't sure if it would ever see the light of day."
My opinion? Let's see both of these things happen!
