The World's End Featurette Explores The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy

It may not get as much attention as major blockbuster franchises, but writer/director Edgar Wright has undeniably created one of the most interesting series of all time with the "Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy." While we are still waiting for our chance to see The World's End, both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are brilliant works of genre mashing, blending comedy with everything we love from zombie movies and action films. But the real magic in the trilogy is that the movies aren't so much connected by characters, story or even genre, but rather by themes of maturity and friendship and comedic pitch driven by stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost that can't be found anywhere else. It's all that and more that's put together in the above brand new five-minute long featurette that explores the history and origins of the films.

We've been waiting patiently for the end of the trilogy for so long that it's strange to think that we are now so close to actually seeing it. With Wright going off to make Scott Pilgrim vs. The World after making Hot Fuzz we didn't hear about The World's End until 2011 when Pegg revealed that he and the director were going to be working on the script. That script writing process finally came to an end in April of last year, which led to production, and then finally to now.

The World's End begins as five childhood friends (Pegg, Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan) reunite as adults to try and do something they could never do as kids: complete a mile-long pub run consisting of 12 drinks at 12 different pubs, finishing with a pint at The World's End. In addition to the group having grown apart over time and not being too keen on being reunited, as they make their way through their home town they begin to discover that something has definitely changed about their former neighbors - namely that they have all been replaced by robots. Just like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Wright and Pegg wrote the film's script together, and Rosamund Pike stars as the female lead. See the film in theaters on August 23rd and be sure to stay tuned later this month for all of our Comic-Con coverage, including the World's End panel. In the meantime you can sit back and watch the film's most recent kick-ass trailer, posted below.
