If you don’t follow The Rock on Twitter, you’re making a big mistake. His account is a hodgepodge of funny comments, aggressive commands about hitting up the gym and reveals about the bazillion movie projects he always seems to be working on. As you can tell from the above image, this is an example of that last category.
Tweeted from the big man’s account last night, it offers fans a pretty sweet look at the chariot he will be riding in the upcoming movie Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Thanks to the black and white, it looks like/ might be a fully realized shot from the film. More importantly for all of us right now, it looks pretty badass and shows off not only four beautiful animals but also how positively jacked the film’s protagonist is. I mean sweet son of Zeus, look at those leg muscles.
Hercules: The Thracian Wars is one of two competing projects about the mythological hero currently racing toward 2014 release dates. The one we’re interested in here stars The Rock, Ian McShane and Tobias Santelmann and is being directed by Brett Ratner. It’s schedule to be released on July 25 and reportedly has a more than one hundred million dollar budget. The other film, Hercules: The Legend Begins, stars Kellan Lutz and Scott Adkins and is being directed by Renny Harlin. It will be released in March on a far more modest budget of $70,000,000.
Those who have been following The Rock’s career have been aware of just how talented he is for a long time. In fact, I distinctly remember being struck by how much charisma he had in Be Cool all the way back in 2005, but for a long time, the knock on the big man was that he rarely made legitimately good movies. Luckily, that seems to be changing. His work in the Fast & Furious franchise has been very well received, and largely thanks to him, Pain & Gain was probably the best movie Michael Bay has released since The Rock. Hopefully, that upward trend will continue with Hercules: The Thracian Wars. At this point, there’s no reason not to be confident. After all, that chariot shot might be the most badass promotional still any of us see all year.
