Cheap Thrills Red Band Trailer Reveals Pain For Pay

This clip is NSFW on account of some nudity, violence and adult content.

Earlier today we asked you what you'd do with $25,000. Now, we're asking what would you do for it? Would you sexually assault a stripper? Punch a stranger? Break into someone's home? Cut off your own finger? These are the curious questions posed to a down-on-his-luck family man in the dark comedy thriller Cheap Thrills.

Yahoo presents the trailer, which shows Pat Healy as Craig, a guy with a wife and baby but no job and no money to pay his rent. If he can't make up some cash quick, his lovely little family will be evicted. Leave it to his buddy Vince to help him drown his troubles at a divey watering hole. There they meet Colin (Anchorman 2: The Legend of Ron Burgundy's David Koechner) and Violet (Sara Paxton), a thrill-seeking couple willing to dish out serious cash in exchange for Craig and Vince completing escalating insane dares. Vince appears to be a dirtball with terrible priorities, and Craig is willing to do anything for his family, so we suspect this won't end well. Oh -- did you notice Vince is a bearded Ethan Embry of Can't Hardly Wait fame? Watch the trailer again. It's more disturbing with this in mind.

We first got word on this demented comedy back in the fall of 2012, right before it rolled into production, reuniting Innkeepers stars Paxton and Healy. A product of horror-thriller production company Snowfort Pictures, Cheap Thrills marks the directorial debut of E.L. Katz, who has previously produced Adam Wingard's A Horrible Way to Die, and co-wrote Wingard's What Fun We're Having. It made its world premier last March at the South by Southwest Film Festival, where it won some rave reviews as well as a distribution deal. Following its screening in the fest's midnight selection, a bidding war -- unusual for the SXSW setting -- broke out. When the dust settled, Snoot Entertainment had nailed down home release rights, while Drafthouse Films, a growing name in genre distribution, secured domestic theatrical rights.

Cheap Thrills will be open theatrically on March 21, 2014. A VOD release is also in the works.
