The Boxtrolls International Trailer Is Full Of Rhymes And Mischievous Boxtrolls

They're shy. They're not brave. They're not pretty. But the Boxtrolls must learn to be heroes. And if the trailers for Laika's new film are trying to get us to fall in love with these adorable stop-motion/CG hybrid animated creatures, they're succeeding admirably. The latest trailer takes a Seussy approach in rhyming through its exposition, introducing us to the adorable boxy trolls living beneath the streets of Cheesebridge.

Via Collider, the new international trailer introduces us to the legend of the mysterious creatures that live underground beneath the posh Victorian-era town of Cheesebridge. People are afraid of them, but as we soon see, they're adorable and more or less harmless. Ok, so they're kind of funny looking and they eat bugs and get up to mischief. But they're also the caretakers of an orphaned human boy named Eggs (Isaac Hempstead-Wright), whom they've raised as their own...

I have a tendency to get embarrassingly weepy over stories like these, especially when there's a family element involved. It happened with Paranorman and the fact that every video released for The Boxtrolls -- right down to the excellent making-of teaser that released last Fall and the more recent trailer -- has resulted in me suffering an uncontrollable case of rapid blinking has me convinced that Laika's latest installment is going to aim straight for the heart.

Directed by Anthony Stacchi and Graham Annable, The Boxtrolls arrives in theaters September 26.
