RoboCop Will Fight Its Way Onto Blu-ray In June

Sony’s RoboCop reboot was a fun, spectacle-filled revisit to the world initially created by Paul Verhoeven and Edward Neumeier. Starring The Killing’s Joel Kinnamon, Gary Oldman, Michael Keatman, Abbie Cornish and a whole host of other prominent names, the movie made for a pretty good watch in theaters, and soon the action flick is springing onto Blu-ray, DVD and Digital, thanks to a collaboration between MGM Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Avid fans of the theatrical release will be able to nab a Digital copy on May 20. A couple of weeks later, on June 3, RoboCop will be available on Blu-ray and DVD.

RoboCop Box

The film starts in 2028, during a time in which the United States is working hard to procure new military weapons to keep the peace. Enter OmniCorp, a company with an idea and plenty of ambition to support that idea. They want to turn a wounded police officer into a part-man, part-robot machine, and when cop Alex Murphy (Kinnamon) falls into the company’s lap after sustaining multiple injuries, Omnicorp’s idea becomes a reality. As you can imagine, half-man, half-robot creation packs a lot of punch, and RoboCop features enough exciting visuals to engage even the least action-oriented fans.

Despite being an entertaining flick, RoboCop didn’t get off to a great start at the box office. Still, the film made enough cashola globally that a sequel to the reboot might be in order. There are certainly pros and cons when it comes to putting together a sequel to any film, but if you haven’t caught the movie, I highly suggest holding off on judging RoboCop until you get a chance to peruse it. You should find a movie that stands on its own merits and offers a couple of hours of undiluted action.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment only listed the Blu-ray extras for the set, leading us to believe that fans that purchase the flick on DVD are out of luck in terms of extras. If you do spring for the Blu-ray copy of the film, you’ll get nearly an hour of extras, including a slew of featurettes taking a look at the how the titular RoboCop was changed from his 1987 manifestation to "suit" a new century. You can check out the full list of extras, below.
