Weekend Box Office: Mockingjay Soars Over Penguins and Horrible Bosses

Thanksgiving weekend saw two new sequels step up, but neither had anything on last weekend's number one which easily dominated the holiday.

Penguins of Madagascar features some of the more popular characters from the franchise, but the spin-off only opened in second place with $25 million. Even adding in the Wednesday and Thursdays from the holiday, its $36 million total hardly compares with the other three Madagascar films that each opened between $47 million and $63 million.

Horrible Bosses 2 brought in a weak $15 million, well below the $28 million opening its predecessor enjoyed in 2011. Its five day holiday total of $23 million is still an under performance.

The Theory of Everything expanded to over 800 locations this weekend, adding $5 million to its now almost $10 million total, moving up from tenth place to seventh.
