Why Batman V Superman Had To Bring Back Lois Lane

With all of the superheroes running around in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s easy to forget that several of Superman’s supporting characters are returning, most notably Amy Adams reprising her role as Lois Lane. Although a newspaper reporter may not seem impressive compared to a flying alien, a guy dressed as a bat and an Amazonian princess, Lois is still set to play an important role in the 2016 blockbuster. In fact, she may hold the key to figuring out how to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together.

Adams told Collider that despite all of the superheroes running around, Lois will still have an important role in the film as the one gathering the important information. Said Adams:

"Lois is still sort of like the key to the information, you know? She’s the girl going out and getting it and figuring it out and putting it together and all of that, so she’s very much involved, but I kind of leave the heavy lifting to the boys, you know? So to speak."

Adams also commented that she felt short while hanging out with the super muscular actors, specifically Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa. Although Momoa has yet to be officially confirmed, Adams’ comment lines up with other claims that Aquaman will make his debut in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, so it’s possible she may be sharing a scene with him. As one of the Daily Planet’s top reporters, it’s not surprising Lois is out in the field uncovering all the hidden information. While Batman and Superman are busy with their super heroics and feuding, she’ll be digging around for secrets and clues.

One possibility is that it will be Lois who figures out what Lex Luthor has planned, leading her to clue in the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight and pointing the two in the direction of the billionaire genius. Forget Batman being the World’s Greatest Detective. Lois could be the one blowing the lid off this case! On the other hand, Lois’ investigating may be about the superheroes themselves. She already figured out the Man of Steel’s secret identity, so when other superheroes start to show up, she may attempt to figure out what their backgrounds are. One fun moment might be Lois figuring out that Bruce Wayne is Batman, similar to what happened in Superman: The Animated Series. Only this time her discovery would be the result of actual investigation rather than accidentally seeing him unmasked.

I was worried that with this film acting as a Justice League Part One-prologue, Lois would be mostly pushed aside in favor of spotlighting the superheroes (like Pepper Potts in The Avengers), but it’s good to know that she’ll still have relevance to the plot. We’ll learn precisely what that relevance will be when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
