Kingsman 2 Could Bring This Pivotal Character Back

Colin Firth has successfully become the next great aging action star in Kingsman: The Secret Service. Though we’re still waiting to see if 20th Century Fox will give the official green light for a sequel, director Matthew Vaughn already has some plans for it just in case. But for those of you who have seen the film this past weekend, you probably won’t see this curveball coming.

[Spoiler Alert: We discuss one massive spoiler from Kingsman below, so proceed with caution.]

Despite being a sartorial badass, Colin Firth dies near the end of the movie. Some viewers were understandably upset because, you know, he’s friggin’ Colin Firth. As it turns out, though, Vaughn already has plans to bring him back from the dead should Fox move forward with Kingsman 2. Speaking with USA Today, he said:

A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.

The epic church fight was one of the best moments of the film. Firth’s Harry Hart comes under the influence of Richmond Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson) and his supervillain technology, which essentially causes everyone to beat the shit out of each other through mind control. After laying waste to a church full of people, Valentine puts a bullet through Harry’s head and we see him collapse. What we don’t see, however, is a body or a funeral for this beloved character. We would love to see how Vaughn plans on resurrecting this guy, so here’s hoping for a sequel.

Kingsman opened in theaters against Fifty Shades of Grey. While its competition led the box office, the secret agent flick earned more than $35 million, which is pretty impressive. Considering that and the rave reviews the film has been getting, there’s seems to be a good chance that a sequel could be coming. We’ll have to wait and see if word of mouth plays its part effectively.

Aside from Vaughn’s Firth plans, the director also revealed that the potential sequel would focus primarily on Eggsy, played to great effect by newcomer Taron Egerton. He explained that the sequel would be about the "modern-day gentleman spy," which Harry Hart is not. Eggsy is brought in to the Kingsmen to introduce some "new blood into this system," and that’s what Eggsy is.

Egerton was rumored to be up for the role of young Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, a part that ultimately went to Ty Sheridon. But if audiences accept Kingsman for all its glory, this franchise could be Egerton’s crowning achievement.
