Teasers for trailers typically don’t do a lot to get our pulse racing. It’s like a mint before an appetizer, as a full trailer is really only setting up the actual feature, which is the meal. And yet, there’s a visual sequence in the center of this ultra-quick Point Break teaser trailer that has us hoping the remake will bring a few original twists to the table come December 25.

Warner Bros. knows that it has a cool image on its hands with the "Money Shot" of skydivers caring so little about their boosted fortune that they are willing to unleash it midair, just so they can plummet through a wind-tunnel of cash. How can we tell? Because the sequence is also the centerpiece of the first Point Break poster that just arrived online.

Point Break

And we expect it to be part of the full trailer, which will be arriving online later today.

Point Break, as you likely know, was Kathryn Bigelow’s groundbreaking 1991 action thriller about an undercover agent (played by Keanu Reeves) assigned to infiltrate a band of beach-bound thrill seekers who were suspected of pulling off a series of bank heists while wearing the masks of dead presidents. The remake seems like it’s staying on the same general path. The plot synopsis reads as such:
Young FBI agent Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey) infiltrates a cunning team of thrill-seeking elite athletes – led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a spate of crimes in extremely unusual ways. Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the architects of this string of inconceivable crimes."

While the focus on Bigelow’s story was surfing, Patrick Swayze’s gang leader also dabbled in skydiving and extreme sports. But this remake looks like it wants to ramp up its approach to the Fast & Furious audience by going hard into "big-wave surfing, wingsuit flying, sheer-face snowboarding, free rock climbing, and high-speed motorcycling," according to Warner Bros.

Point Break director Ericson Core served as director of photography on such films as Invincible, The Fast and the Furious and Payback. The film will co-star Ray Winstone, Teresa Palmer and Delroy Lindo. Warner will have it in theaters on Christmas Day. Look for the full trailer later today.
