Much like Wet Hot American Summer, Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan's Can't Hardly Wait is a film that has weirdly improved with age, as many of the members of its very young cast went on to do much bigger things with their Hollywood careers. Also much like Wet Hot American Summer, this makes it the kind of material that is also just asking to be revisited with the entire original cast... and it turns out that's an idea for which Jennifer Love Hewitt is totally on-board.
Following a special screening of the movie at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, the actress took to her personal Twitter account this weekend and made a pitch to fans about a reunion for Can't Hardly Wait. She didn't exactly provide a possible plotline for the movie, but you can see her request below:
Hitting theaters back in June of 1998, Can't Hardly Wait was an ensemble comedy that followed a number of different stories all involving a high school party taking place on graduation night. Jennifer Love Hewitt was arguably the female lead of the movie, but the impressive cast also includes actors like Ethan Embree, Seth Green, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli, Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer, Selma Blair, Melissa Joan Hart, Clea DuVall, Freddy Rodriguez, Sara Rue, Jaime Pressly, Jason Segel, Jerry O'Connell, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Jenna Elfman.
All of these actors are currently working in the industry, and would presumably be game to return for some kind of Can't Hardly Wait reunion, but there is one potential hitch with this idea:
As fans of the film know, Charles Korsmo played one of the most significant roles in the movie - William Lichter: the nerd who finally gets his day with the popular kids - but Korsmo has not worked as an actor since the 1998 movie. He began working in Hollywood as a child actor, starring in movies like Dick Tracy, What About Bob? and Hook, but he wound up leaving the profession and went on to become a law professor. It's a little hard to imagine him suddenly deciding to get back into acting after all these years, and a reunion really wouldn't be the same without him.
