One thing that even the fiercest of book critics would agree with is that Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice probably could have done with some more zombies. Well, those of you who feel the same way will soon get your wish, because Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is coming to a big screen near you soon, and its first UK trailer makes it look immense.
Yep, that looks about as superb as we probably all thought. Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is based upon a novel that was written by Seth Grahame-Smith back in 2009. Rather than being an original piece, Jane Austen herself actually gets a co-author credit because Smith used the original text of Pride And Prejudice and then just incorporated zombie and ninja elements to it. Which is about as ingenius an ideas as I've ever heard.
Clearly, this book was always going to be ripe for cinema, and the first trailer for Pride And Prejudice And Zombies makes it abundantly clear that there will be gore, romance, but, most importantly of all, kick-ass action scenes as Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and their merry band of cohorts try to deal with the undead.
Of course, since it’s the 1813s, they don’t have too many weapons to deal with the ferocious beasts, who look just as gruesome and hideous as ever. I mean, just take a look at the nasty blighters.
There’s plenty of reasons to be excited about Pride And Prejudice And Zombies. Not only does it come from a critically acclaimed book, but it’s been directed and co-written by Burr Steers, whose previous exploits include Igby Goes Down and 17 Again. The trailer suggests that he’s moved into the action genre with aplomb.
Rather encouragingly, too, is the fact that the one and only David O. Russell, of Three Kings, American Hustler, Silver Linings Playbook, and just being a terrific filmmaker fame, wrote the original script. In fact he was in line to direct the film, too, until he dropped out in 2010 over budget arguments.
The film's elegant and English cast includes Lily James (Cinderella), Sam Riley (Control), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), and Jack Huston, while Bella Heathcote, Lena Headey, Charles Dance, Suki Waterhouse, Douglas Booth and Jack Huston are supporting. Basically, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies looks like it could be a bad-ass and downright entertaining flick to warm up our cockles in the winter months, as it will arrive on February 5, 2016.
