John Boyega Just Launched An Epic Flame War With William Shatner Over Star Wars Vs. Star Trek

Since the 1970’s when Star Wars came on the scene there has been a (mostly) friendly rivalry between fans of the two biggest franchises that include space ships, Star Wars and Star Trek. Captain James Tiberius Kirk himself, William Shatner has been adding fuel to the fire in recent weeks, by trolling the hell out of Star Wars fans on Twitter. Well the war just took a turn, as one of the new stars of The Force Awakens has decided that he’s not going to take it anymore.

John Boyega wasn’t actually aware of the trolling that Mr. Shatner had been up to. However, now that it’s been brought to his attention, he’s taking on the captain of the Enterprise. The specific issue appears to surround the new droid BB-8. In a recent tweet Shatner said that BB-8 would replace Jar Jar Binks as the most embarrassing character in the Star Wars saga. This did not sit well with Boyega, who had a simple and blunt response.

Here’s what you need to do. Take a seat. Have a nice tea. And keep your mouth closed.

And just like that, the battle began. It’s the "nice tea" that really makes it. Boyega wants the accomplished actor to relax and enjoy himself, while he’s busy not talking. It hasn’t taken long for Shatner to respond to Boyega’s attack as he’s already taken to Twitter to modify his original statement.

While Boyega hasn’t responded in kind, we’re hoping that he does, if only because watching these two go after each other might be the most entertaining thing that might happen over the next nine days before we finally get to see the new movie. It’s as good a way as any to pass the time. Boyega seems to have a great sense of humor about it, so we figure he can hold his own against The Shat.

Where exactly the battle began has been lost in the sands of time. The two series have similar names and both take place in space, but that’s really where any similarity stops. As J.J. Abrams tells Yahoo Movies, Star Wars is much more of a fairy tale fantasy as compared to Star Trek’s more traditional science fiction. Check out the full video below.

Have you chosen a side in the battle of Star Wars vs. Star Trek? Let us know if you prefer one over the other or if the whole thing is just as silly as William Shatner’s hairpiece.
