Civil War's Director Just Confirmed We'll Be Seeing Black Panther's Home

While we know that Black Panther will be making his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of Captain America: Civil War ahead of his own film, exactly how much of him we’ll be seeing in the former film has not been clear. Now one of the directors has spilled the beans, and it looks like Black Panther is going to be such a big part of the plans for Civil War that we’ll even get to see his home country of Wakanda in the upcoming movie.

While speaking at Wizard World in New Orleans, the Russo Brothers were asked if Wakanda would be seen in Captain America: Civil War. Anthony Russo answered the question by avoiding the question entirely. He spoke about how important the character was but ended by saying that Wakanda was "still on the table." Not content to leave it there, Joe Russo followed up and explained a bit of Marvel code that many of us had already mostly figured out. Since they’re not supposed to talk about what’s in the movie, if the answer to the question is no, they say "no," but when the answer to the question is yes, they say "maybe."

If you're going to see Wakanda, we go, 'Listen, we can't tell you whether or not you're going to see Wakanda.'

So we can call that, as reported by ComicBook.com, as close to a confirmation that we’re going to get that Wakanda will be in the movie. Exactly how much we’ll see is, of course, not clear. It likely won’t be that much, as there’s a lot going on elsewhere in the movie to cover and the movie is not likely to be four hours long. We may meet Black Panther there before he gets called in to take out the Winter Soldier. It’s also possible that we’ll see him at the end of the movie going home, likely in a scene that will help set up his solo project. Although, that movie won’t be hitting until 2018, so there likely won’t be too much direct set up, as nobody will remember it by then.

It was weird for Anthony Russo to say that Wakanda was still "on the table" as it’s not like the movie was still filming. In fact, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has said that he’s actually seen the movie already, so there’s already a finished version of the film out there, even if it’s not the final version, it would mean that at the very least Wakanda scenes were filmed, that might get edited out before the final version is released. That’s always a possibility, but it would seem unlikely at this stage.

So it looks like we’ll be traveling someplace new in the MCU when Captain America: Civil War comes out in May. Are you excited to see the home of Black Panther on the big screen?
