What Crossbones Really Wants In Captain America: Civil War

At the end of Captain America: Winter Soldier, Frank Grillo’s Brock Rumlow was in bad shape. A Hellicarrier had crashed into the building he was in, and he’d then fallen to the ground amidst the rubble and carnage. Most infuriatingly of all for Rumlow, he’d been unable to finish the job of killing Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and mortally wounding Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). He survived, but this destruction lead to the "death" of Brock Rumlow, who instead has been reborn as Crossbones. And because of the antics of Winter Soldier, in Captain America: Civil War Frank Grillo has admitted that Crossbones is hell bent on revenge.

Frank Grillo made this admission at his Wizard World New Orleans appearance over the weekend, detailing exactly what Crossbones is after in Captain America: Civil War. In fact, even though Brock Rumlow previously sought to do some good as the Commander of S.H.I.E.LD.’s counter-terrorism S.T.R.I.K.E. team, Grillo admitted to Comic Book that he only has his eyes on one thing now: revenge.

Whatever Rumlow was feeling as far as being torn between which side he should be on, which I think he was, is gone now. I think he’s out for one thing and one thing only, and that’s to revenge what’s happened to him.

Sure, it was revealed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that Brock Rumlow was also a rather nasty agent for HYDRA, too. The fact that Crossbones is intent on gaining revenge means that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon should really keep an eye out for the villain in Civil War, as he will almost certainly blame him for his injuries. It will be interesting to see just how much time is given to Crossbones’ pursuit for revenge in Captain America: Civil War, though. That’s because the superhero movie's pretty full already. Rather than going through everyone who’s in Captain America: Civil War, it’s probably quicker to tell you who is not appearing. Basically anyone you associate with Guardians Of The Galaxy and Thor. And maybe the Hulk. But probably not.

That means that the directing team of Anthony and Joe Russo will somehow have to find room to establish the conflicts and actions of 17 characters without making the film feel bloated. Unfortunately, Crossbones’ efforts aren’t top of the list of what people want to see. But that’s something that Frank Grillo has admitted to being completely fine about in the past.

We’ll see how much time the villain gets when Captain America: Civil War is finally released on May 6.
