Sleigh Bells’ video for “Comeback Kid,” the first single off the band’s new album, Reign of Terror dropped a month ago, but it took me nearly that long to reconcile the song’s tauntingly catchy nature with its more aggressive, effectual side. I’m pretty sure I like it, as well as the video, which features bandmates Alexis Krauss and Derek Edward Miller toting guns around town in strange leather and neon costumes.
To be honest, the only reason I know Sleigh Bells exists is because the DJ for my wedding has them on her “suggested play” list. I suppose that’s one of the hazards of hiring someone that looks like she shops exclusively at Urban Outfitters. As I am unwilling to drop a suggestion without thorough investigation, I delved in, and at this point I’m not completely sad I did.
As for the wedding list? I’m not sure “Comeback Kid” is danceable, but it is worth hearing at least once.
