After the virtual Tupac Shakur appeared during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s Coachella performance, the possibility of taking the hologram on tour became a wide and highly touted rumor. As it would likely be a lucrative and successful stage show, especially if Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg remained involved, the possibility of a hologram-on-tour is not entirely unfeasible. However, the opportunity that more holographic versions of dead musicians could appear in live stage shows is absolutely still mind blowing.
Right now, the hologram is still in its early stages. The first step to creating a successful and detailed stage image is to find the technology to go from a flat image to one that can be projected in a fully fleshed out 360 degree picture. Once the Digital Domain Media Group or others can figure that out, than Dr. Dre and co. can move forward with new visions. Dr. Dre himself recently spoke with TMZ to discuss where he would like to see the image technology go in the future.
"Hopefully, different artists are able to bring out their favorite artists. Hopefully, we can see Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye. Let's see what happens."
We still seem to be a ways away from this type of technology and some may argue it is best if it stays that way. Regardless, the fan interest over the hologram of Tupac can’t be denied and if others can capitalize on that same sort of interest, why not give it shot?
